RAWALPINDI, Jan 28: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA), in the ongoing second-phase of its anti-Musharraf movement, is planning to organize a countrywide caravan to press Gen Pervez Musharraf to fulfil his promise regarding the uniform issue.

This was announced by MMA leaders in their speeches delivered at a protest gathering near Raja Bazaar here on Friday. The speakers said the caravan programme would be finalized on the return of MMA leadership from Saudi Arabia after performing Haj.

The MMA activists gathered near the Raja Bazaar after Juma prayers and took out a rally that was led by party's local representatives including Maulana Ashraf Ali, Dr Mohammad Kamal, Hanif Chaudhary, Raza Ahmad Shah and Mohammad Abbas Butt.

The participants of the rally rejected what they termed secular policies of the present government and demanded restoration of religion column in passport. The speakers accused the government of pursuing and promoting US agenda in the country. They pledged any such attempts would be foiled at every cost.

They were of the view that the government's economic policies had failed and the poor people had totally been deprived of all facilities. They said religious parties were united and no one could break their unity.

Speaking on the occasion, Maulana Ashraf Ali asked the government to stop dishonouring Islamic values. Our leaders, he alleged, had been creating a wedge between the army and the people.
