HYDERABAD, Jan 31: The central leader of the National Trade Union Federation, Mr Nasir Siddiqui, has criticized the insensitivity of the Sindh labour department and the Hyderabad administration to problems of workers of the glass bangle industry.
He was speaking to workers of the bangle industry at the end of their hunger strike outside the press club on Sunday. He warned if the owners of the bangle factories in Hyderabad did not reopen factories within one week, the federation would launch a movement against the labour department throughout the country and take over the possession of factories.
He said the responsibility for consequences would squarely rest on shoulders of the joint director of the labour department. He assured the bangle industry workers that if genuine demands of workers were not accepted, the federation would launch a country-wide movement.
He demanded that the factories should be reopened, the daily wage and contract workers should be confirmed in service and they be issued attendance and social security cards. He demanded that the EOBI should register all bangle industry workers.
