FAISALABAD, Jan 31: Two alleged outlaws and a constable were killed and another constable sustained injuries during an encounter in People's Colony here on Monday. A motorcycle squad of Union Council No 225 signalled to stop two-wheelers.
Instead, the motorcyclists increased the speed of their vehicle (FSD-3372) and tried to flee. In any case, the police squad overpowered one of the outlaws after a brief chase. But the suspect injured the constable with a dagger and a gunshot. In the meanwhile, his other accomplice also opened fire, killing constable Farrukh Waseem instantly and injuring the other. However, the injured constable returned the fire and killed both the outlaws.
The injured constable, Muhammad Khalid, was shifted to the Allied Hospital where his condition was stated to be out of danger. Police failed to trace the whereabouts of the deceased outlaws till the filing of this report.
DPO Muhammad Amin Wains announced a cash award of Rs1 million for the family of deceased constable and Rs200,000 for the injured constable. Meanwhile, constable Muhammad Arshad of Chak 90-JB (Khurrianwala), who sustained bullet wounds during an encounter with outlaws on Jan 17 in Satiana, died at the Allied Hospital on Monday.
The DPO also announced a cash reward of Rs1 million for the family of the deceased constable, Arshad. The funeral prayers of both the constables were offered at the Police Lines grounds which were also attended by DIG Sajjad Ahmed and DPO Amin Wains.
RALLY: Scores of religious workers took out a rally against the Basant celebrations here on Monday. They paraded through Katchery Road, Circular Road, Kotwali Road, Dijkot Road and other main roads of the area.
They were carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the Basant activities. Leaders of the protesters said that Basant celebrations were Hindu traditions and rulers were converting the country into a secular state. They said there was no justification to celebrate such un-Islamic festivals.
