GUJRANWALA, Feb 4: The local Anti-Terrorism Court No 1 on Friday re-issued non-bailable warrants for the arrest of former Gujranwala DIG and other former high ranking police officials and others on the charge of persistent absence from court in the Sialkot jail case.

The judge directed the police to arrest accused - former Gujranwala DIG (now Multan DIG) Malik Muhammad Iqbal, ex-Gujrat DPO Raja Munawar Hussain, ex-Sialkot DPO Amjad Javid Saleemi, former Allama Iqbal Memorial Hospital MS Dr Firdaus Shah and surgeon Sajjad Hussain and produced them before court during next hearing on Feb 9. However, the elite police officials - former jail superintendent Sikandar Hayat, inspector Zulfikar Virk and other jail officials were present in court.

PATWARIS' STRIKE: Patwaris and qanoongos in Wazirabad tehsil went on pen-down strike and set up a protest camp at Tehsil Katchery against the humiliation of their colleagues by a civil judge during the hearing of a case on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, Anjuman Patwarian president, Wazirabad tehsil, Chaudhry Irshad Ahmad and other office bearers strongly protested against the civil judge. They pledged to continue their strike till the legal action against the civil judge.

They also demanded that the civil judge should be transferred immediately before any judicial inquiry. The civil judge was hearing a revenue case of Veroki village while patwari Chaudhry Nasrullah Cheema and his colleagues were present in court.

The judge reportedly directed the patwari to catch his ears in the corridor of court while qanoongos were asked to keep their hands up. The judge also reportedly passed some derogatory remarks against Wazirabad tehsildar Mahmood Ahmad Bhatti.
