HYDERABD, Feb 11: Adviser to Sindh Chief Minster for Environment and Alternate Energy Noman Saigal has called for generous contributions from people for the aid of tsunami victims.
Speaking at a fund-raising festival organized by the Fauji Foundation Model School here on Friday, he appreciated efforts of NGOs, students of the school and government officials for collecting donations. Stressing need for maintaining cleanliness, the adviser urged people not to throw garbage outside their homes and to dispose if of at garbage dumps.
He observed that generally people had no knowledge about pollution and asked school principals to organize seminars on environmental issues and apprise students about pollution-related problems. Principal Riffat Jehan briefed the adviser about funds collected in the festival.
HUNGER STRIKE: Leaders and activists of the Qasimabad coordination committee of the Sindh Tarraqi Pasand Party observed a token hunger strike at the Naseem Nagar Chowk here on Friday to protest against the proposed bifurcation of Hyderabad district.
Those who observed hunger strike included Muzaffar Kalhoro, Nusrat Channa, Qadir Channa, Ali Khaskheli, Shaukat Abro and Mahboob Abro. STPP general secretary Dr Hameed Memon, deputy general secretary Hoath Khan Gadhi, Sindh Hari Sangat president Sarang Unnar and others visited the hunger strike camp.
Speaking on the occasion, STPP leaders said that the Muttahida Qaumi Movement had hatched a conspiracy to bifurcate Hyderabad district but the bid would be foiled. They described any bifurcation of the district as an attack on the Sindhi language, culture and history.
