LARKANA, Feb 11: The Larkana district chapter of the People's Party Parliamentarians has formed an election board to finalize names of candidates for the next local bodies' elections.

Addressing a gathering here on Friday, MPA Ayaz Soomro said the board comprised MNAs and MPAs of the party and district nazim and naib nazim. He said the final list would be sent to party chairperson Benazir Bhutto for awarding tickets.

He welcomed the meeting between Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif and said closer ties between the two parties would strengthen democracy in the country. Mr Soomro said the people of Sindh were opponents of all anti-Sindh projects including the greater Thal canal and Kalabagh dam.

He said the sea erosion had devastated millions of acres of land in Thatta and Badin districts and fishermen had been deprived of their rights. He alleged that Sindh's water was being stolen from barrages and link canals in Punjab.

Criticizing the use of force in Balochistan, he said it would yield bad results. He condemned the arrest of Eng Wali Mohammed Rahmoo who had announced to contest election against Sindh Chief Minister in Thar.

DCO: The district coordination officer presided over a meeting regarding Moharram on Friday. He called upon law enforcing officers to maintain law and order during the month.

DPO Larkana Saeen Rakhio Mirani, DPO Shahdadkot Ameen Yousufzai, Commander Rangers Col Tarique, TPOs, TMOs, DDOs, EDOs and MS CMC hospital attended the meeting. The DPOs informed the DCO about the contingency plans for the month in Larkana and Shahdadkot districts. They said eleven places had been declared sensitive where security measures would be beefed up accordingly.
