HYDERABAD, Feb 13: Activists of different NGOs took out a procession here on Saturday to protest against criminal assault on a lady doctor in Sui, Balochistan and to mark the national women's day.
The participants carried placards and banners inscribed with slogans condemning violence against women and demanding justice for the lady doctor.
Social workers, journalists and representatives of NGOs, including Nasreen Shakeel Pathan of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan's special task force for Sindh, Rafia Bangash of the Women's Rights Association and Shaista Ramzan of the Bhandar Hari Sangat, spoke at the end of the procession outside the press club.
They said that the Sui incident indicated conditions in which the women were living and incidents of violence and discrimination against women were on the rise. Ms Pathan demanded that the culprits be brought to justice and a plan be devised to curb such incidents.
NGO: A new NGO, the Sindh Aurat Sabha, has been formed by a group of women to work for social uplift of women in the province. This was announced by Rehana Channar, Gulfam Khawar and Zarqa Baloch at a news conference at the press club here on Saturday.
