HYDERABAD, Feb 17: An official of the sessions court raided the A-section police station in Latifabad here on Wednesday and found a detained man, Mohammad Shahid, without any record of his detention.

Tariq Hashmani went to the police station after he was appointed raid commissioner on an application filed by Sarfaraz Ahmed, a resident of Latifabad-12. He stated that his brother had been picked up by sub-inspector Rana Gulsher without any reason.

The court official visited the police station and found Shahid sitting in the room of head-moharir. The sub-inspector arrived there and said that an application had been forwarded to him by a trader on October 11, 2004, requiring interrogation of Shahid.

He claimed that he had gone on Muharram duty and in the meantime, Shahid had voluntarily visited the police station and he was not detained. The police official has been directed to appear in the court on Thursday.

PROTEST: Municipal workers observed strike and kept offices of the City taluka municipal administration closed here on Wednesday to protest against non-payment of salary of January.

A delegation of the workers, led by CBA union president, Ghulam Mohammad Qureshi, general secretary Akram Rajput, and National Labour Federation leader Rana Mehmood Ali Khan, called on DCO Mohammad Hussain Syed.

The DCO was informed that workers had not stopped sanitation work and they would call off strike provided their salaries were paid. The leaders also complained against the attitude of Taluka Nazim Moinuddin Sheikh in this respect.

The DCO told them that salary would be paid by Thursday and urged the workers not to stop sanitation work as it could cause problems in Muharram. He said that a meeting would be held between the nazim and union leaders on February 19 for resolving other problems of the workers.
