KHAIRPUR, Feb 21: The B-section police have registered a case against 47 residents of Noonari Mohalla for taking out a procession in protest against drowning of a two-year-old boy in an open drain.
They have been charged with blocking road near the Luqman railway crossing, pelting vehicles with stones and raising slogans against the government.
The child, Abdul Aziz Noonari, was playing outside his home when he fell into the drain and drowned here on Saturday. District Nazim Nafisa Shah called on the aggrieved family of the child and visited the place of the incident on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, she deplored the death and said that due to paucity of funds and political hindrances, development schemes in the city had been delayed, hence, such incidents were taking place. She directed Khairpur Taluka Nazim Mushtaq Jumani and the taluka municipal administration to take effective measure to prevent such incidents in future.
PROCESSION: As many as 131 people were booked by the Pir-jo-Goth police under section 188 of the PPC on Monday for taking out a mourning procession on the Ashura day without permission.
