HYDERABAD, March 3: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has supported the concept of community policing and said it should be promoted and expanded because it will lead to community-police cooperation.

He was responding to questions of journalists after visiting a filter plant and water lagoons of the Water and Sanitation Agency here on Thursday. He urged officials concerned to establish community policing in Hyderabad and then expand it further so that police problems could be understood by the community.

The governor said he would look into the matter of the police hospital, Hyderabad, whose SNE (schedule for new establishment) had not been approved by the finance department. He said certain things had been pointed out by MPAs regarding law and order situation which would be discussed.

He said it was priority of the government to ensure maximum funding and facilities to police and that was why many police mobiles and other logistics were provided to the force recently.

He also promised to see why law-enforcement agencies had not vacated archaeological sites by the deadline of September 2004 he had given to them. Referring to his visit to the water lagoons and the filter plant, he said the city needed 600MGD water of which 400MGD was filtered. He said arrangements would be made under the president's development package for Hyderabad to ensure treatment of the remaining quantity of water.
