SUKKUR, March 9: The National Highway and Motorway Police will complete its enforcement from Karachi to Mirpur Mathelo by March 15. This was stated by the SSP of Sector-III (N-5), Syed Shabih Akhtar Shah, in a statement issued to the press on Monday.

Mr Shah said the police provided relief to 6,932 people and arrested many highwaymen in eight months. He said checking of vehicles and issuing of tickets had been initiated in October 2004 in the beat No.8 (Ranipur) and beat No.9 (Karamabad).

Mr Shah said enforcement and ticket issuing had been started in beat No.10 (Pano Akil) from March 1 while enforcement would be started till beat No.11 (Mirpur Mathelo) from March 15.

Elaborating performance of the motorway police, he said during an encounter with highwaymen an outlaw was killed and his four accomplices were arrested. Three highwaymen involved in looting of passenger bus near Ranipur were arrested from beat No.11 Mirpur Mathelo.

He said during eight months Rs40,537 were recovered as a fine from motorists. He said the motorway police during its rescue operations saved lives of 25 passengers after 17 road accidents. He claimed after the enforcement of motorway police, 75 per cent reduction had been recorded in road accidents while 99 per cent decline had been achieved in crime.

MEDICAL CAMP: The Pakistan Army is organizing a free medical camp on March 14 and March 15 at the Government Hospital Bagerji in order to help civilian population, according to an official press statement issued here on Monday.

In this regard, DCO Shafique Ahmed Khoso held a meeting with army officers and executive district officers of various nation-building departments to discuss arrangements to make the medical camp a promising success. The DCO directed officers concerned of various departments to ensure required arrangements during both days of the medical camp.
