LAHORE, Oct 28: The three-year-old colt Jet Master maintained his supremacy by winning the Mianwali Cup run over seven furlongs during the 8th Lahore Winter Meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday.

Ridden astutely by this country’s leading jockey Shahid Rehman and trained by Sohail Aziz, the bay colt flashed past the front-runner Jet Black in the last furlong of the fifth race of the day and held on strongly to win by two-and-a-half lengths. Another bay colt Crown Maker finished third, one-and-a-half lengths further back while the bay horse Half Love completed the frame. In all, 10 Class V and IV runners faced the starter for the feature event. Jet Master clocked one minute 26 2/5 seconds over the distance of seven furlongs.

The owner of the winner, Wajid Ali Khan received the cup from a former provincial minister and the Lahore Race Club (LRC) senior steward, Malik Ghulam Nabi, soon after the race ended.

The three-year-old bay filly Shattary romped home to an easy win in the second race of the afternoon. It was the supporting event, a terms race for three-year-old thoroughbred colts and fillies and was run over six furlongs.

Trained by Haji Ghulam Sarwar, Shattary stormed into the lead after going round the final bend and then strode away to claim the race rather easily. Shattary was ridden by riding boy Qamar Zaman, beating another bay filly Royal Soul by five-and-a-quarter lengths. The bay colt Popeye Well finished third another four lengths behind, while Dane Hill Dancer completed the frame, a distance further away. Only seven competed in this event with Shattary clocking one minute 15 seconds, going over six furlongs.
