RAWALPINDI, March 26: District Nazim Raja Tariq Kiani has exhorted the local representatives to focus on development of their respective union councils and work selflessly for the welfare of their people. He said this while speaking as chief guest at the annual prize and certificate distribution ceremony of a local school on Saturday. Mr Kiani said it was the duty of every member of the local government to utilize all available resources for the welfare of the people who voted them to power. Therefore, the period of hollow promises and sloganeering has ended, he added.

He also spoke about water problems and Leh nullah issue. He said these problems caused inconvenience to the residents in the beginning but now these had been overcome.

He said millions of rupees had been spent on pavements and cementing of streets, carpeting of roads and construction of drains and nullah. Besides, tubewells have been installed and filtration plants constructed in many places, he added.

He said work on Railways Workshop Road and Leh bridge would be completed this year. It is the right of people to be provided with more facilities and should not be considered as any favour from anyone, he added.

None of the representatives have done any work from his own pocket. It is the government?s money which is provided to them for carrying out development works in their respective constituencies, he added.
