HYDERABAD, March 29: The Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association observed a black day on Tuesday throughout the interior of Sindh in protest against the murder of Prof Saleem Chaudhry, principal of the Dawood College of Engineering and Technology.

A press release issued by the association said black flags were raised on college buildings and teachers wore black armbands while taking classes.

They held protest meetings and expressed a grave concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in educational institutions.

The leaders of the association, Prof Mashooq Baloch, Agha Khalid, Khadim Khoso and Mubin-ur-Rehman visited colleges in the city and spoke at the meetings.

PROTEST: Students of the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology belonging to the SPSF-SB staged a demonstration outside the press club on Tuesday in protest against the university administration.

They raised slogans against the vice-chancellor.

Speaking on the occasion, Shoaib Domki, Adnan Abbasi, Farhan Khanzado and Wajid Jutt said their struggle would continue till the resolution of their problems and the removal of alleged incompetent and corrupt officers.

They appealed to the authorities including the NAB and anti-corruption establishment to take action against the alleged corrupt officials.

HUNGER STRIKE: Employees of the HDA observed a token hunger strike outside the press club on Tuesday in protest against the HDA administration and CBA union for non-payment of salaries to Wasa employees.

The hunger strike was observed under the banner of HDA Workers Front.

They demanded that Wasa employees should be paid their salaries and other outstanding dues without delay and children of retired and deceased employees should be recruited in the HDA, seniority list should be corrected and promotions should be given to workers.

They demanded that the provident fund and gratuity of the retired and deceased employees should be released and subsidy of Wasa should be restored.
