HYDERABAD, April 2: Tando Allahyar Taluka Nazim Abid Yousuf Bachani has claimed that Tando Allahyar is the first taluka municipal administration to directly receive its share of Rs.6.16 million in the Sindh Devolved Social Services Programme funds on account of its performance.
Talking to journalists here on Thursday, he said that under the programme eight development schemes at an estimated cost of Rs6.16 million had been taken in hand to improve drainage, water supply and sanitation system in the taluka.
Giving a break up of the schemes, he said that construction of the Jaffer Chanyo water supply scheme would be completed at a cost of Rs1.55 million, improvement of the Tando Allahyar city water supply scheme at Rs0.55 million, improvement of Dhingano Bozdar drainage system at Rs0.2 million, improvement of Tando Soomro drainage at Rs0.52 million, improvement of Missan Wadi drainage system at Rs0.4 million, drainage scheme of Bheel Colony in Nasarpur at Rs1.5 million and drainage scheme of Khan Mohammad Bozdar at Rs0.8 million.
Besides, he said, Rs0.6 million would be spent for purchase of a tractor with trolley and a water tanker for Tando Allahyar.
He said that after being elected as the taluka nazim in August 2001, he had been trying to generate funds from the TMA’s own resources in addition to government grants to provide facilities to the people.
He said that due to his efforts, the revenue from a cattle market and a slaughter house had increased by 13.04 per cent and recovery in the head of the map approval fee by 78 per cent in 2004-5 as compared to 2000-1.
Similarly, a 58.44 per cent increase had been achieved in the recovery of taxes as such the TMA had achieved the goals in the area of income generation.
NGOs: District Nazim Dr Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman has directed the EDOs to submit reports about NGOs engaged in professional works in their fields to avoid overlapping in development works.
In an official circular issued here on Wednesday, the nazim said that a number of NGOs were working in coordination with different departments in the district, most of them were engaged in health, education and community development sectors and some were recipient of foreign aid.
