SUKKUR, April 14: A large number of villagers staged a protest demonstration and sit-in on the Khanpur-Sangrar road following the killing of a motorcyclist by armed men on Thursday morning. Badal, son of Fakir Mohammad, 22, was on way to Sangrar when armed men tried to grab his motorcycle and he resisted. The bandits opened fire killing him on the spot.

The villagers staged a protest demonstration putting the body on the road after which traffic become stranded for about three hours.

No case was registered till the filing of the report.

JUI: A general council meeting of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam on Thursday demanded that Gen Pervez Musharraf should immediately resign from his post.

The meeting was held at Madressah Manzil Gah Sukkur on Thursday.

Maulana Mohammad Saleh Sajawali presided over the meeting.

Maulana Mohammad Murad Halejvi, Dr Khalid Mehmood Soomro and Maulana Abdul Qayoom Halejvi attended the meeting.

The meeting expressed its anxiety over lawlessness, ever-rising price hike, unemployment and obscenity.

It demanded that the government should resign as it has failed miserably to overcome the problems.

The meeting termed the construction of Kalabagh dam and Thal canal as anti-Sindh projects and demanded that they should be abandoned.

The meeting also criticized the division of Hyderabad.
