HYDERABAD, April 21: Activists of the People’s Party Parliamentarians held a protest demonstration outside the press club here on Thursday against arrests of party workers who were going to Lahore to receive Asif Ali Zardari. Led by party’s Sindh Council member Syed Fayaz Shah, Pasha Kazi, Naseer Patani and other leaders, they also observed a token hunger strike.
The protesters raised slogans against the rulers. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Shah condemned large-scale arrests of party workers in Lahore and other towns of Punjab. He said that it was a democratic right of political workers to welcome their leader.
He alleged that the party activists were not only arrested but they were also subjected to violence. He observed that such methods could not demoralize the activists.
He demanded that the arrested leaders and workers should be released and Punjab and Sindh governments be dismissed.
The Sindh People’s Youth, Qasimabad zone, also staged a protest march from the party secretariat to the press club against the arrests of the activists.
SPY leaders Waseem Memon, Bashir Ahmad Palari and Shahid Hussain Palh criticized the Punjab government for the arrests.
They demanded immediate release of the party workers and leaders and pledged to continue their struggle till restoration of democracy in the country.
DEMONSTRATION: The Qasimabad Taluka Council Workers Union (CBA) held a protest demonstration outside the press club here on Thursday against an attack on the union chairman.
Speaking on the occasion, union leaders Imam Bux Bhatti, Manzoor Ahmad Shaikh, Akbar Memon and others said two employees of the union council had attacked the union chairman Ashraf Chandio.
They demanded immediate arrest of the assailants.
