HYDERABAD, April 25: The TPO and four other police officers of the Hyderabad taluka (rural) have been accused of killing a man while he was in their custody. Speaking at a news conference at the press club here NGO leader Mohammad Ilyas Khokhar and relatives of the deceased, Khair Mohammad Sandeelo (father of the deceased), Mir Mohammad Sandeelo, Mohammad Urs Sandeelo and Gul Mohammad Sandeelo, demanded a judicial inquiry into the incident.
They said that on April 19 at 10pm, TPO Mohammad Aslam Rajput, ASI Allah Warayo Hingorjo, ASI Mohammad Khan Babber and constables Mohammad Hanif Behrani and Mohammad Khan Talpur came to the Jehan Khan Kathio village and took away Mr Hussain on the pretext of footprint identification in some case.
However, they alleged, Mr Hussain was killed in a garden the same night and the following day, Mr Sandeelo received information that his son had been killed on the pretext of being a bandit. They said Mr Sandeelo went to the Chamber police station where he was informed that the body of his son was lying in the hospital. The body was later brought to the village.
They alleged that Mr Sandeelo had gone to the Tandojam police station to lodge a murder case but his FIR was not registered and he was threatened with dire consequences. They further alleged that police were also threatening other villagers.
They demanded a judicial inquiry into the incident, removal of the police officers concerned and protection to villagers.
However, when contacted on telephone, the TPO denied the allegations levelled against police by the relatives of Mr Hussain. He claimed that the man had been killed in a police encounter and added he was facing robbery cases.
RESULTS: The controller of examinations, University of Sindh, has announced results of semester examinations of various departments and institutes of the university.
The controller of examinations also notified for information of candidates who appeared in the annual examinations of 2004 of MA, BCom (pass) and BA (pass) and were reported in copy cases to appear before the examination discipline committee at the Sindh Development Studies Centre near the Pakistan Study Centre, Allama I. I. Kazi campus, Jamshoro, on April 25.
MQM: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement on Sunday denied its involvement in acts of disturbance during an Eid Milad-un Nabi meeting.
Leaders of the JUP had alleged that their meeting was attacked by MQM activists on Friday.
Speaking at a press conference, MQM zonal organiser, Siraj Rajput said the MQM was unnecessarily being targeted by the MMA though its own activists had disrupted the programme after JUP leaders focussed their speech on the basis of their own Barelvi sect which infuriated MMA workers belonging to other sects.
