Musharraf to brief Kashmiris today

ISLAMABAD Jan 7: President Gen Pervez Musharraf has called a meeting of Kashmiri leaders at 10am on Thursday at his camp office in Rawalpindi to brief them about his talks with Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee.

Sources said the president would take the Kashmiri leadership into confidence on issues relating to forthcoming talks with India. Pakistan and India issued a joint statement on Tuesday, agreeing to hold a composite dialogue in February.

The president would explain to the Kashmiri leaders certain proposals with regard to the Kashmir dispute which were discussed between him and the Indian premier, but were not made public, sources said.

AJK Prime Minister Sardar Sikandar Hayat Khan, President Sardar Mohammad Anwar Khan, former presidents Sardar Abdul Qayum Khan and Hayat Khan, opposition leader Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry, leaders of Kashmiri political parties as well as the All Parties Hurriyat Conference besides some prominent leaders of armed resistance in occupied Kashmir are expected to attend the meeting.
