QUETTA, Jan 24: A complete shutter-down strike was observed in Chaman, the border town, on Saturday in protest against the killing of two currency dealers.

All business centres, shopping plazas and bazaars remained closed throughout the day on the call of the traders' organization to which political parties had also lent support.

Thousands of protesting local traders and workers of political parties marched on the main roads of the town shouting slogans against the government and the local administration.

Later, protesters gathered on the Tranch road where tribal elder Haji Jilani Kana Achakzai, district secretary PMAP, Mullah Sharfuddin of JUI and Mohammad Hashim Achakzai of the traders organization made speeches.

They criticized the law enforcement agencies and local administration and said both the institutions had failed to protect the life and property of the people in Chaman.
