GUJRANWALA, Jan 31: A local court on Saturday awarded life term to three accused with a fine of Rs100,000 in two cases here on Saturday.
The district and sessions judge awarded life term to Muhammad Yousaf and Muhammad Shahzad on charge of burning a copy of the holy Quran.
The convicts committed the crime in Indonesia locality here on March 24, 2003.
The court also awarded life term and a fine of Rs100,000 to Muhammad Babar in a murder case. He will have to undergo six months hard jail in case of default.
Babar had killed factory guard Muhammad Ramzan over an old enmity on April 4 last.
BOYCOTT: The District Bar Association boycotted local courts on Saturday in protest against the 'humiliation' of a lawyer by police and vowed to continue its protest till the arrest of the accused, an ASI of traffic police.
At a meeting at the bar hall, lawyers demanded that charge sheet against the ASI be produced before the court within a fortnight.
Meanwhile, District and Sessions Judge Riazul Hassan has summoned the DPO, city SP and Kotwali SHO on Feb 6 on a petition filed by lawyers.
