SIALKOT: POs kill two, injure four

SIALKOT, Feb 21: Two people were shot dead and four were injured by three proclaimed offenders in the main market of city's congested Pakka Garah area late on Friday night.

Some eyewitnesses said Dr Amjad, Arshad, Haneef were sitting in a shop when their rivals Qamar, Umar and Adeel Butt opened firing. As a result, shopkeeper Bashir Ahmad and passer-by Zahid of Khanewal died on the spot while Dr Amjad, Arshad, Haneef and an unidentified man were injured.

Police said the attackers had been declared proclaimed offenders in an old murder case.

The injured were shifted to the Lahore General Hospital from the Allama Iqbal DHQ Hospital because of their critical condition.

Later, traders and relatives of the murdered men blocked Kashmir Road for a short while and held a protest demonstration in front of the offices of Sialkot District Police Officer (DPO).

The protesters chanted anti-police slogans and demanded immediate arrest of the killers.

They dispersed on the assurance of Gujranwala Range DIG Altaf Qamar and Sialkot DPO Nisar Ahmad Saroya that the killers would be arrested within five days.

Injured: Dacoits shot at and injured an employee of the Passport Office, Gujranwala, and looted the house of a trader in Daska on Friday night.

Reports said that 15 dacoits forced their entry into the house of Manzoor Ahmad in Syedanwali-Burj Cheema village, held up the family and started looting. They shot at and injured Manzoor when he resisted.

Later, the dacoits fled away with gold ornaments, cash, electronic goods and other valuables, worth of Rs500,000.

Manzoor was taken to the Daska Civil hospital where his condition was stated to be critical.

Five dacoits stormed into the house of Rafeeq on Awami Road. where a marriage ceremony was being held. They held up all guests, collected valuables worth of Rs200,000 and fled away.
