ISLAMABAD, Feb 21: Former prime minister Benazir Bhutto has condemned police firing and baton-charge on a procession of PPP activists in Azad Kashmir on Friday.
She demanded a judicial probe into the incident and punishment to those responsible for the incident.
A protest camp was set up by the Pakistan People's Party on the call of ARD. Similar protest camps were also set up throughout the country from February 13 to 20.
The PPP protesters were marching towards the district courts in Rawalakot when the police resorted to firing and baton-charge.
PPP leaders Sardar Mohammad Hussain, Lateef Akbar and Sardar Sawar Khan were among the injured.
In a statement, Benazir Bhutto said police action against peaceful demonstrators was most reprehensible. The over-reaction by the administration showed that the regime had gone berserk over the protest call given by the ARD.
"I salute the valiant party workers and urge them to continue their struggle. The days of the tyrant rulers had come to an end," she said.
CONDOLENCE: The PPP chairperson has expressed her grief over the death of a party worker, Dhani Bux Memon, who set himself on fire in protest against the fabricated cases against Benazir Bhutto and her husband Asif Ali Zardari.
Dhani Bux Memon was the president of PPP Garhi Yasin Tehsil. He had warned the authorities to stop victimizing Ms Bhutto.
In her condolence message, Ms Bhutto paid rich tributes to Dhani Bux Memon and said she did not have words to express her grief on his death.
