KOHAT, Feb 28: The Anti-Narcotics Force at Kohat seized 3,716 kilograms of fine quality hashish in a raid near Lachi grid station on the Indus Highway on Saturday, and arrested two persons who were in army uniform.

The drug was being smuggled in a fake military truck from tribal area to Punjab.

ANF assistant director Mohammad Iqbal told Dawn that they had erected a blockade near the Lachi grid station on the directives of the provincial director who was tipped of that an attempt would be made to smuggle hashish from the tribal area to Punjab via Kohat.

During checking, the team spotted a suspicious truck which was signalled to stop. After little resistance the smugglers were over powered by the ANF special squad. Upon search of the truck (85-6142) 3,716 kilograms of hashish was recovered which was packed in 145 gunny bags.

A case was registered against the two smugglers identified as Sher Alam and Khan Wali, residents of Dir, and investigations were initiated, Mr Iqbal said. This was the biggest consignment seized during the year in NWFP, he added.
