Benazir supports one-China policy

ISLAMABAD, March 20: Pakistan People's Party has reiterated its support to one-China policy and expressed concern over the referendum plan in Taiwan.

Former prime minister and the chairperson of the Pakistan People's Party, in a statement issued here on Saturday, said: "Having noted with concern the pro-independence referendum announced by Taiwan, the PPP backs the international opposition to the said referendum and reiterates its support to one-China policy.

"PPP pursues peaceful reunification of China as a cornerstone of its's China policy. Sovereignty of the Peoples Republic of China over Taiwan has been endorsed by the international community through the Cairo Declaration and the Potsdam Proclamation."

She said China's commitment to peaceful settlement of the Taiwan issue through dialogue enjoyed support of people around the globe.

"Pakistan People's Party considers the five principles of peaceful coexistence practised by the PRC as the best guarantee for resolution of political conflict around the world including the Taiwan issue, which Beijing considers it's internal problem."Pakistan People's Party supports PRC in it's bid to promote national reconciliation between brothers in Taiwan and Mainland China without outside interference in the larger interest of peace and prosperity of the region and the world".
