MINGORA, April 2: The government has allocated about Rs1.5 billion for road construction in Swat under the Malakand Rural Development Project (MRDP).

Out of this allocation, Rs800 million is for the Khwazakhela-Kalam road construction project.

A briefing was arranged for members of the provincial assembly here at the Malakand Rural Development Project offices here on Friday.

The project director of the Malakand Rural Development Project, Jamshidul Hassan, said that for the construction of farm-to-market roads, allocations had been made separately.

Work on roads in Shangla, Malakand agency and Buner had already been started under the Malakand Rural Development Project, he said and added that these projects would cost Rs820 million.

The meeting, presided over by NWFP Science and Technology Minister Hussein Ahmed Kanju, decided that work on the Khwazakhela-Kalam road would be started without any further delay.
