HYDERABAD, May 1: The International Labour Day was observed at all district headquarters of interior Sindh on Saturday to pay tribute to the martyrs of Chicago.
Rallies were held by different labour unions to mark the occasion.
In Hyderabad, the Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Central Labour Union, Pakistan Human Rights Foundation, People's Labour Bureau and the Crescent Food Industry Workers Union took out processions that terminated at the press club.
Speaking on the occasion, Wapda union (CBA) president Abdul Latif Nizamani, provincial secretary Iqbal Kaimkhani and other leaders highlighted the sacrifices of the Chicago martyrs. They said that workers could achieve their rights by emulating the martyrs.
They criticized the IMF, the World Bank and the WTO and held these organizations responsible for destroying economy of Pakistan.
The People's Labour Bureau at a meeting held here urged workers to unite on one platform for their rights.
Crescent Food Industry employees held a demonstration outside the press club against victimization of 72 workers.
Speaking on the occasion, Sindh National Labour Federation president Rana Mehmood Ali Khan criticized what he called anti- workers policies of the factory management.
KHAIRPUR: A seminar was organized by the Muttahida Mazdoor Federation at the Sachal Auditorium here on Saturday to mark the May Day.
Earlier, a procession was taken in connection with the Labour Day.
JACOBABAD: The adviser to the Sindh chief minister, Mumtaz Hameed, has urged labours to foster unity for achieving their rights.
He was speaking at a gathering held to mark the Labour Day at the Tikunda Park.
DADU: Labour organizations observed the May Day in different towns of the district. A big procession was taken out from Moundar Naka to the press club.
