KOHAT, May 14: The district council unanimously passed a resolution on Friday demanding that the government should construct a plant for the Shakardarra oil and gas fields in Kohat instead of any other district as it was the right of the people to get benefits from the project.

The resolution was passed during a meeting of the district council, said an official statement.

The meeting was presided over by Naib Nazim Haji Sardar Khan and attended by Nazim Malik Asad Khan, all union nazims, minority and women members, and representatives of the government departments.

Shakardarra Union Council Nazim Abdur Rasheed Khattak, while presenting the resolution informed the house that the government was interested to construct a gas plant in Daudzai area and usurp the rights of the local population.

He said that with the construction of the plant in Shakardarra the people in the remote area would be able to get basic amenities and job opportunities.

Through another resolution, the house directed the tehsil municipal administration to ensure payment of bills to the contractors in time so that they could continue their work smoothly.

Mohammad Iqbal said that due to non-payment of dues the contractors had stopped work on several projects.

The district nazim, while taking action on the complaints against the resident audit officer, constituted an inquiry committee to probe into the allegations.

The house was informed that the officer was involved in taking bribe and commission for clearing the bills.

The nazim nominated the district coordination officer as the chairman of the committee and nazims Hashmat Ali Khan, Abdur Rasheed, Abdul Manan and the district chief of the works and services department, Engineer Musawar, as its members.
