THATTA, May 29: A strike was observed in Mirpur Bathoro on Friday against the supply of contaminated water, shortage of irrigation water and frequent power breakdowns in the town.

The call for the strike had been given by the People's Party Parliamentarians.

Hundreds of PPP activists, led by MPA Sassui Palijo, district party president Syed Masood Mustafa Shah, PPP Sindh Council member Aijaz Khwaja, Amber Murad Zaur, Mehboob Shah and Dr Shams Shoro, took out a procession from the Ali Bunder Chowk.

The protesters after marching through the main bazaar staged a sit-in on the Sujawal-Hyderabad road for over one hour.

The leaders said that the PPP would file cases of individual victims in the court if the government failed to fix responsibility on officials and did not pay compensation to bereaved families.

They said that monsoon had started but the riverine network was lying waterless, adding that the late sowing of paddy crops would affect the produce.

They criticized the loan recovery campaign launched by the Zarai Taraqiati Bank in the district and said legislators should raise their voice on the issue.
