NAWABSHAH, June 2: Owners of flour mills and chakkis held a protest demonstration here on Wednesday against transportation of wheat bags to Karachi by the food department.

They also burnt tyres outside the main food godown near the Habib Sugar Mills. They said that the transportation of wheat to Karachi would lead to wheat shortage in Nawabshah, which already did not receive its quota.

Food officials called police who dispersed the protesters. Later, talking to journalists, Ayaz Ali Shah, head clerk of the food department, Nawabshah, told this correspondent that they had received an order from the Sindh government for transfer of 180,000 wheat bags to Karachi. He said that 12,000 wheat bags were sent to Karachi on Wednesday.

UNCONSCIOUS: Dozens of people fell unconscious in different parts of the district as the temperature rose to 48 degree Celsius on Wednesday. Power failure in various parts of the city added to miseries of people.

GUTTED: Four houses were gutted when a fire broke out in the Laung Khan Keerio village on Wednesday. The houses belonged to Ali Gul, Fazil, Mohammad Khan and Gullan. The fire was extinguished by villagers.
