JEJU (South Korea), June 12: Pakistani boxer Ali Mohammad has been disqualified for the world junior boxing championship on being underage. Ali was not allowed to participate as he is yet to reach age of 17 while boxers should not be less than 17 and not more than 19 years of age. Ali will be 17 after three-and-half months.

Pakistan team manager Shah Naeem Zafar said Ali had been disqualified because of lack of co-ordination between Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) and the organizers which prevented Pakistan from fielding its best boxer in the tournament.

Five boxers from Pakistan arrived here along with two officials to participate in the tournament which started on Saturday.

Shahid Khan (48kg), Ali Mohammad (51kg), Qarar Hussain (57kg), Mohammed Younis (60kg) and Dur Mohammed (69kg) are the boxers, while Khan Mohammed coach.

After Ali's disqualification, Dur Mohammed will fight on Sunday and Shahid Khan on Monday in the opening round.

Meanwhile, before being disqualified, Ali was detained by Seoul immigration authorities, claiming that boxer's name was on terrorists' list.

Ali remained in the custody of immigration officials for almost two hours on Friday before being released after investigation.

His release came after Pakistan manager showed NOC of Karachi Port Trust's intelligence department which had cleared Ali.-PPI
