OKARA, June 19: Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool has said departments were not held accountable in the past but now the government is bringing bureaucrats to open courts.

Speaking to complainants during visits to various federal government offices, including that of Nadra, Wapda, Sui gas, PTCL, National Highways and the Zarai Taraqiati Bank here on Saturday, he said efforts were being made to address the people's problems.

Defence Minister Rao Sikandar Iqbal, MNAs Rao Muhammad Ajmal, Mian Khurram Jehangir Wattoo, Rubina Shaheen and others were also present on the occasion.

The governor said in the past the ZTBL did not enjoy a good reputation. But the graph of complaints had come down now.

He said tube-wells would be installed to boost the agriculture sector. Mr Maqbool said the government had lowered the rate of mark-up from 14 per cent to nine per cent for the benefit of the agriculturists. He issued orders on various complaints.

Earlier, District Nazim Syed Sajjad Haider, Naib Nazim Syed Abbas Raza Rizvi, Tehsil Nazim Nadeem Abbas, DCO Syed Iftikhar Babar and Sheikhupura Range DIG Syed Saqlain Naqvi welcomed the governor on his arrival.
