HYDERABAD, June 25: The sixth additional district judge Hyderabad on Friday confirmed pre-arrest bail of the former chief engineer Sukkur Barrage, former director-general HDA and former EDO health in a sum of Rs100,000.
They were earlier granted interim pre-arrest bail in a case registered against them for supplying contaminated water to people.
The court had sought a report of inquiry of the Sindh chief secretary that was conducted on the directives of former Sindh chief minister Ali Mohammad Mahar following deaths of several people due to consumption of highly contaminated water.
In charge investigation Market police Amir Kakakhel produced the letter received from the Sindh chief secretary, ordering registration of FIR against former EDO health Agha Tariq, former DG HDA Ali Ahmed Lund, former chief engineer Sukkur Barrage Ghulam Nabi Mughal and former managing director Water and Sanitation Agency Kafeel Khanzada.
The police official informed that the inquiry report could not be obtained so far because correspondent had been made with the chief secretary.
It was on May 15 when contaminated water of the Manchhar lake was released in the Indus river through the Aral Wah by irrigation officials and it was supplied by WASA to people without any check.
Sindh irrigation secretary Bashir Dahar is also under suspension in the same matter.
SLA: The Sindhi Language Authority announced here on Thursday that cash awards would be distributed among writers in accordance with the announcement made by the authority in 1999, reports our Bureau.
A press statement said that the authority had earlier announced to give literary awards to authors of eight books but due to unavoidable circumstances these awards could not be given.
It said that the administration had decided to give cash awards of Rs10,000 each to the selected writers and poets on July 10 on the occasion of a conference on the topic of "Shah Latif, Sindhi Language and Society".
These awards will be given to Ghulam Mohammad Ghazi, Mumtaz Bukhari, Ayaz Gul, Inam Shaikh, Ali Mohammad Babro, Akhtar Dargahi, Parwano Shewani and Qasim Soomro.
