SUKKUR, June 27: Parts of upper Sindh and Balochistan are facing a worst kind of electricity crisis as power supplying towers have fallen near Kashmore and Khairpur Nathan Shah towns.

The Hesco authorities on Sunday announced four to five hours loadshedding in the areas where power supply was partially restored so as to provide electricity to those areas which were without electricity for 24 hours.

It was the first summer showers in the area on Saturday evening after the lapse of four or five years when the power supply to upper Sindh and Balochistan disrupted.

Hesco Sukkur chief engineer Yahya Bashir, who is in Karachi, told this correspondent on telephone that he had instructed the senior officials to tell factual position to the people and not conceal any facts which could result into resentment among them

According to the official sources at about 5:00pm on Saturday two 132Kv towers fell in Mehar and Khairpur Nathan Shah which resulted into power disruption in the entire Larkana circle.

The Hesco officials said that at about 8:30pm on Saturday two more towers of 132Kv fell between Kandhkot and Thull as a result parts of Balochistan and other areas of the upper Sindh also went without power.

The Hesco officials said that at about 4:00pm the Hesco officials tried to supply electricity to the affected areas from the Sukkur grid on this a major fault developed which resulted into breakdown of power supply in Sukkur city which was not restored till the filing this report.

Earlier, Hesco Sukkur chief executive said that a fault had developed in the Guddu Thermal Power House which resulted into power disruption to the upper Sindh including the Sukkur city and its adjoining areas.

However, the Guddu authorities said that the power house was running to its full capacity and the operation officials were misguiding the people.

When this correspondent contacted Hesco Sukkur chief engineer Yahya Bashir in Karachi he asked the Hesco officials not to conceal the facts and desist from misguiding the people.

The officials said that one or two days were required to restore the electric supply in the entire upper Sindh and Balochistan.

Jacobabad, Kandhkot, Garhi Khairo, Shikarpur, Mehar, K. N. Shah, Nasirabad, Kambar, Naudero, Thull and parts of Balochistan including Rojhan Jamali, Jafferabad are still without power.

The sewerage water and rain water had accumulated in the cities and towns as the suction pumps were not operating.

All the ice factories are also closed down due to non-availability of power which is adding to the miseries of the people.

Our Larkana correspondent adds: The city and its surroundings remained without power since Saturday night.
