HYDERABAD, July 17: The residents of Sehrish Nagar held a demonstration outside the press club here on Saturday in protest against acute shortage of drinking water in their locality and adjoining villages.

Talking to newsmen, the office-bearers of the Sehrish Nagar Welfare Association, Jahangir Sobhopoto and others, said that water supply to their area had been suspended for three months.

They said that they had held many protest demonstrations and sent telegrams to the managing director of the Water and Sanitation Agency but the water supply had not been restored.

They complained that the people had to go to the River Indus to fetch water.

They said that Sehrish Nagar had also been ignored in development works and its roads and drains had been destroyed.

They warned that if the water supply was not restored within two days, they would block main roads in Qasimabad.

LECTURERS: About one dozen selected contractual lecturers held a demonstration outside the press club here on Saturday against the Sindh education minister for withholding their appointment orders.

Talking to newsmen, Arshad Siyal and other protesters said that if there were any allegations of nepotism in the selection of the lecturers, the selection committee should be taken to task.

JSMM: Reacting to the statement made by the Sindh chief minister that if the Kalabagh dam project is abandoned, Sindh will have no objection over Bhasha dam, the Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz has said that this may be the opinion of the CM and his cabinet but the people of Sindh are opposed to all dams on the River Indus.

In a statement faxed to Dawn here on Saturday, JSMM chairman Shafi Mohammad Burfat and others accused the chief minister and his cabinet of betraying Sindh.
