FAISALABAD, July 31: The local police on Saturday declared the grenade explosion incident as a 'terrorist act', arrested two brothers and booked them for intentionally throwing a hand-grenade on a group of children.

The explosion had caused injuries to 14 people, including 12 children in Madina Town on Friday.

On the written report of constable Iftikhar Ahmed, deputed at Madina Town UC Motorcycle squad, the Peoples Colony police have registered a case under Section 3/5 Explosive Act No. 6 1908, 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act and 324 PPC.

The police arrested Tanveer Ahmed and Mehmood Ahmed, sons of Nazir Ahmed of Madina Town. One of the accused Mehmood also sustained injuries while Tanveer had managed his escape after throwing the explosive in the street where children were playing.

The police said the accused were being investigated to trace the involvement of any terrorist group behind the incident or their links with any banned group.

According to the report lodged by Iftikhar Ahmed, he was patrolling along with constable Walayat Ali, when they heard a big bang near street No 27 of Madina Town in the limits of Peoples Colony police station.

The police claimed that both the accused deliberately committed the terrorist activity and threw the explosive material on the children to achieve their 'nefarious' designs.

On Friday, the police had termed the incident an accident and also issued a press note which claimed that Tanveer had brought a grenade type device at his home some 15 days ago. The press note said some children were playing in street No 27 of Madina Town when Mehmood took the device to the street and children started playing with it.

They tried to crash it with bricks due to which it exploded.
