KARACHI, Aug 14: Three picnickers including two brothers died and five others were injured in a road accident on the National Highway, a few kilometres from Thatta on Saturday morning.

Edhi sources said that a group of picnickers comprising 10 youths, all residents of Gulbahar area, had hired a coach for a picnic at Keenjhar lake.

They took the road at 3:30am. At around 7am, their coach developed a flat tyre near Jokio Goth. As they were busy changing the tyre, two speeding coaches rammed into the parked vehicle, killing two brothers Rafiq, 22 and Shafee, 21, and their cousin Ansar, 22 and injuring others.

The injured were taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi, where Nadeem, Naeem, Shahid, Zafar, and Ramzan were admitted. Nadeem was stated to be in a serious condition.

Both the deceased brothers were residents of Farooqabad, Gulbahar No 3, while Ansar resided in Gulbahar No 2.

In another accident, a motorcyclist died and his friend was injured when a trailer hit them on the National Highway.

Police said that Mubeen and Kamran were heading towards Thatta when their motorcycle slipped near Shahbaz petrol pump on the National Highway.

A trailer coming from behind ran over them killing Mubeen on the spot and seriously wounding Kamran. The latter was shifted to the JPMC where he was admitted for treatment.

A 10-year-old boy died in a road accident in Korangi on Saturday. Police said that Owais was knocked down by a speeding water tanker in Nisar Colony. The boy was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where he died during treatment.

The tanker driver escaped from the spot.

KILLED: An activist of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement was killed in Jatlines late Friday night.

Police said that Nisar Ahmed, 22, sitting outside his house suffered a bullet wound in his head when some armed suspects on a motorcycle opened fire at him.

The wounded was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where he died during treatment.

An FIR was registered at the Brigade police station against eight activists of the Sunni Tehreek, a duty officer of the police station said.

The MQM in a statement issued on Saturday condemned the killing. The Rabita Committee of the party termed the killing as a move to disturb peace in the city.

The committee urged the governor and chief minister Sindh to take serious notice of the killing.

BODY RECOVERED: An unidentified body was recovered from a deserted place in Gulistan-i-Jauhar. Police said the body, recovered from Block-6, bore torture marks. Police shifted the body to the JPMC for legal formalities.

Fourteen passengers were injured when a speeding minibus over turned at M.A. Jinnah Road on Saturday night.

Police said that minibus of route W-11 overturned near Bundu Khan restaurant. The injured were rushed to the Civil Hospital where condition of one boy was stated to be serious.
