DADU, Oct 16: EDO of education Ghulam Mustafa Kalhoro refused to provide record of school management committees' funds to the chairman of a committee constituted by the district nazim here on Saturday.

District Nazim Malik Asad Sikandar on receiving complaints had constituted the committee, comprising district council members and headed by Khudabad Union Council Nazim Mohammad Paryal Birhamani, to probe into charge of misappropriation. The district nazim had directed the committee to seize the record and submit a report.

The chairman of the committee through an official letter asked the EDO to provide a detailed record of the SMC funds and closed schools of the district required for the investigation.

The EDO through an official letter sent to the district nazim expressed lack of confidence in the inquiry being conducted.

Mr Birhamani said that a number of primary teachers were not attending their duties but receiving salaries. He said that about 350 primary girls and boys schools had remained closed in the district.

He said that the World Bank provided funds for repair of schools building and purchase of furniture but no school building had been repaired.

He confirmed that the EDO had refused to provide the record.

Nazir Ahmed Leghari, a member of the committee, said that the provincial education minister should take notice of the matter.

The district nazim said that officers of education department were embezzling the SMC funds.

He said that he had directed the EDO to open the closed schools but no school had been opened as yet.
