HYDERABAD, Oct 18: Residents and shopkeepers of Dadan Shah Colony on Monday burnt tyres and blocked the Mohammad Ali Jauhar Road to protest against the inordinate delay in the repair of road and sewerage lines.
Traffic on the busy road came to a complete halt for half an hour. The repair work was stopped quite some time back and has not been resumed.
They protesters raised slogans against the UC and taluka nazims for their apathy towards this problem.
They said countless protest demonstrations had been held by them but to no avail, and added that business activities in the area had also been affected.
They said the situation had worsened during the recent rains when vehicular traffic had to adopt alternative routes in Dadan Shah colony as the road had remained completely submerged i rainwater.
They appealed to the authorities to come to their rescue and ensure reconstruction of the road as soon as possible.
PROTEST: The Mini Taxi Workers' Union, Hyderabad, has announced that it would take out a mini taxi procession on Tuesday (today) to protest against extortionist elements and hoodlums, as well as, apathy of the police, reports Our Bureau.
In a statement issued here on Monday, union spokesman Faiz Mohammad Qureshi alleged that in presence of the police, extortionists had fired directly at the president of the union, Moosa Khokhar, and secretary-general, Mohammad Naqi, who miraculously escaped unharmed. Although, police were able to arrest two of the accused on the spot, others managed to escape.
He accused ASI (investigation), Qadeer, of partisan attitude, and said the hoodlums were roaming about freely, but the police failed to arrest them.
