SKARDU, Oct 18: According to an official statement issued by the election commissioners of Skardu and Ghangche here on Saturday, the Pakistan Muslim League has emerged as the largest party in the two districts by winning six seats out of nine.
Twenty-six candidates contested the election. Of them nine were from PML, five from PPP and 12 independents. There were 175,527 registered voters in Baltistan.
The result announced officially further said that in a tough competition the Deputy Chief Executive Haji Fida Mohammad Nashad defeated independent candidate Wazir Shakeel Ahmad with only 187 votes in NA-9 Skardu-III.
The announcement added that from NA-7 Skardu-1 Wazir Wilayat Ali won election as an independent candidate but latter joined PML.
In NA-10 Skardu Capt (retired) Sikandar Ali of PML was declared successful.
In NA-8 Skardu-II Shaikh Nisar Hussain (PPP) won. In NA-11 Skardu-V Syed Asad Zaidi (independent) in NA-12 Skardu-VI Imran Nadeem, (PML), were declared successful.
Similarly in Ghangche District, Mohammad Ibrahim Sanai (PML), from NA-22 Ghangche-I, Mohammad Iqbal (independent), from NA-23 Ghangche-II and Engineer Mohammad Ismail (PPP) from NA-24 Ghangche-III were declared successful.
Mohammad Iqbal who was elected as independent from Ghangche-II joined PML on Friday last.
LBS: For 13 general seats of District Council, Skardu, Haji Mohammad Ali, Raja Jalal Hussain, Raja Javed, Wazir Fida Ali, Haji Fazal Ali, Ghulam Abbas, Wazir Ghulam Abbas, Fida Hussain, Ghulam Ali, Mohammad Ismail, Kacho Mehdi Ali Khan and Fida Hussain Inqilabi were elected members officially.
For Municipal Committee Skardu, Haji Ghulam Haider, Wazir Inayat Ali, Bashir Ahmad Khan, Mohammad Afzal, Ahmad Ali, Mohammad Shabbir, Mohammad Yaqub, Zulfiqar Ali, Mohammad Khan Chaudhry, Iqhlaq Hussain, Akbar Ali, Mohammad Tahir, Haji Mohammad Hussain and Khadim Hussain were declared elected.
In Skardu 212 members were elected for 31 union councils.
For nine seats of District Council Ghangche, Advocate Yahya Khan, Mohammad Iqbal, Mohammad Bilal, Mushtaq Hussain, Sultan Ali Khan, Rozi Ali, Mohammad Ibrahim, Ijaz Hussain and Manzoor Hussain were elected.
In Ghangche, 89 members were elected for 14 union councils.
For Municipal Committee Khaplu, former chairman Mohammad Yousaf, Vice-Chairman Musa Khan, Ghulam Mohammad, Ghulam Rasool, Shabbir Hussain, Suleman, Mohammad Choo, Gulzar Hussain, Ghulam Nabi and Ghulam Mohammad were elected officially.
After taking oath, the members of newly-elected Northern Areas Legislative Council, will elect five women and three technocrats on the reserved seats in the council and then elect speaker, deputy speaker and deputy chief executive. The district councils, municipal committees and union councils will elect chairmen and vice-chairmen and two members each for district councils.
