DADU, Oct 20: Shopkeepers have increased the prices of vegetables, fruit and meat here with the advent of the holy month of Ramazan, according to a survey conducted by this correspondent.
Mutton is being sold at Rs210 per kg, beef at Rs110 per kg, chicken at Rs120 per kg, fish at Rs140 per kg, potato at Rs18 per kg, tomato at Rs20 per kg, lady finger at Rs20 per kg, apple at Rs45 per kg and banana at Rs20 per dozen.
A city resident, Akram Shaikh, said that the district administration and the market committee were not taking any action against shopkeepers indulging in overcharging.
Anwar Solangi said that the district administration had not constituted any committee to control prices of commodities of daily use.
Meanwhile, some hotels have been kept open in Dadu, Mehar, Khairpur Nathan Shah, Sehwan, Johi and Bhan Saeedabad in the day time.
Social welfare organizations and political parties have appealed to the district nazim to direct the district administration to take action against shopkeepers who were selling food items on high prices.
