SUKKUR, Oct 20: A group of students held a protest demonstration outside the press club here on Tuesday against shortage of teaching staff in the Sardar Ghulam Mohammad Khan Mahar Medical College.

Raising slogans against the Sindh government and the college administration, the students said even after the lapse of one year, there were no teachers in the college. They also complained about non-availability of equipment in the laboratory.

Meanwhile, the college administration said interviews had been conducted to appoint staff from grade 1 to 19 on Dec 13, 2003, and the selection board had sent its recommendations to the government but not a single appointment had been made.

Sources said the Behria University had conducted test for admission to the college but classes were unlikely to start due to non-availability of teaching staff. However, the principal said despite shortage of teaching staff, classes would be held and the course would be completed on time.

He said 1,825 candidates had appeared in the admission test for 105 seats and the result would be announced on Oct 30.
