Published October 21, 2004

OKARA, Oct 20: Two persons were killed in different incidents here during the last two days. Reports said Abdullah was going to see funfair at Sheikh Sharif village when his rivals Mazhar and Zafar (residents of Thatta Akbar at Mauza Murdani) , along with their accomplices, stopped him. They gave Abdullah sound thrashing and then shot him dead.

In another incident, Muhammad Anwar of Mandi Ahmadabad village was sleeping at his house when two men knocked at the door. Hardly had he opened the door, the two armed men shot at and injured him. He breathed his last on way to hospital. Police have registered cases and are investigating.

DEMAND: Traders, lawyers and representatives of various social organizations have demanded of the Punjab governor to shift back the offices of the House Building Finance Corporation and the Small and Medium Entrepreneur to the city from Sahiwal.

They said the people of the district had to travel to Sahiwal for their problems concerning these offices.

The demand was earlier made to Governor Khalid Maqbool during his visit to Okara in June and he assured the public that he would study the reasons for shifting both the offices to Sahiwal. However, no practical step has been taken even after four months.

DIES: The wife of senior lawyer Rai Nasir Ali Khan died of renal failure here on Wednesday. She was laid to rest after her funeral prayers that were attended by the lawyers and officials of the district administration.
