RAHIM YAR KHAN, Oct 20: A United Nations team on Wednesday visited Taranda Gorgage, Janpur, Chak 42 Abbasia, Muhammad Daha and Ahmed Yar Tanveri of Liaqatpur tehsil and examined under-ground water.

Dr Mahmood Qurashi and Dr Saba Khalid were amoung the team members.

The team visited the girls primary and elementary schools of these areas and found sub-soil water badly affected by arsenic posing health hazards to the people.

The doctors informed the students and teachers about the effects and treatment of arsenic. Dr Qurashi said the reason of the contamination was excessive use of fertilizers and pesticides.

LABOURERS: As many as 246 houses will be allotted to labourers in the district soon.

This was said by Muslim League Labour Wing district president Ijaz Ahmed Khan here on Wednesday.

Accommodating almost 4,000 homeless people, he said, the houses would be provided to the industrial labourers fulfilling the requirements of the 71 Ordinance. The workers who have completed three-year employment period can file their applications with the district labour officer till Nov 20.

ZAKAT BODIES: Schedule for election of Zakat committees in five union councils of Majipur Thal, Khair Muhammad Glor, Masu Khan, Shahpur and Mianwali Sheikhan was issued here on Wednesday.

Announcing the schedule, district Zakat committee member and woman coordinator to the district Nazim Nusrat Ijaz urged the people to elect pious people in the elections to be held from Oct 26 to 31.
