HYDERABAD, Oct 21: The leader of the Al-Khidmat group in the district council, Mr Rana Mehmood Ali, has said that roads constructed at a cost of tens of millions of rupees in the district have been destroyed just in one rainfall.

In a statement issued here on Thursday, he said the main causes of the destruction were the use of substandard material, indifferent attitude of the official concerned.

He said political and social organizations and the district council had raised objections but no remedial action was taken and tens of millions of rupees spent on the construction of roads went down the drain.

Mr Rana alleged that substandard material, limestone and black oil were being used in connivance with the officicals.

He said there was no one to take cognisance of the corrupt practices.

He demanded that a committee of three expert engineers be appointed to conduct inspections of the newly constructed roads and submit its report to the district council.

The leader of the Al-Khidmat group demanded that the officials concerned should be placed under suspension and an inquiry be held against them.

PLEA: A man from Daulatpur taluka of Nawabshah district, Ghulam Rasool Shah, has appealed to the president of Pakistan and prime minister and the provincial authorities to provide protection to his family members against the alleged land grabbers and order the arrest of the real accused responsible for the murder of Bachal Rind.

He was speaking at a news conference along with his uncle Qasim Shah, Moazzam Kazim Naqvi and Sher Ali Kazimi at the press club here on Thursday.

He alleged that on the first of Ramazan, Inayat Rind, Haji Badal, Haji Sheral and Pathan Rind tried to take over the possession of his land but the conspiracy was foiled and he immediately registered an FIR against the above accused at the Aliabad police station.

He said the group had already occupied 1,200 acres of government land and cases were registered against them at different police stations.

He demanded that a thorough inquiry into the murder of Bachal Rind and protection to him and his family members.

OPEN DAY: An open day was organized for the private sector engineers, alumni and students in the faculty of electrical, electronics and computer system engineering of the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology Jamshoro on Wednesday.

The vice-chancellor of the university, Dr A.Q.K. Rajput, inaugurated the day. Dr Rafique Abro, the dean of the faculty of the EECE, explained the aims and objectives of the open day.

A large number of engineers and students participated in the event.
