FAISALABAD, Oct 24: Armed bandits shot dead a villager, hijacked two cars and as many motorcycles and looted valuables in eight different strikes in the city and its rural areas during the last 24 hours.

Unidentified bandits shot dead villager Shaukat Ali when he tried to overpower one of the outlaws in Data Colony in the limits of Sadar police station.

A gang of armed bandits looted thousands of rupees in cash, ornaments and other valuables from the house of Tariq at Chak 609-GB in Bahlak. The outlaws also injured Tariq's aunt for raising an alarm.

Armed dacoits injured Saeed on resistance in Chakera village in the jurisdiction of Sadar police station.

Masked bandits snatched thousands of rupees from villager Muhammad Ali in Khurrianwala.

Three masked robbers snatched a car (FSD-3374) from Azmat Ali in Raja Ghulam Rasoolnagar in the limits of Batala Colony police station.

Unknown vehicle-lifters took away a car of trader Muhammad Afzal from Aminpur Bazaar.

Nasar Nawaz, a student of the Agricultural University, was deprived of his motorcycle (FSB-4379) by unknown vehicle-lifters.

Unknown thieves took away a two-wheeler (FDU-3875) of Tauseef Ahmed from the local Allied Hospital.

ARRESTED: The local police claimed to have arrested two prayer leaders for violating the ban imposed on the use of loudspeakers here on Sunday.

Reports said policemen deputed for the security purposes at two different mosques found that prayer leaders were using loudspeakers.

Ghulam Muhammadabad police have registered a case against prayer leaders and sent them to jail.

SUICIDE BID: A mentally deranged labourer attempted suicide by setting himself ablaze in Dhudiwala here on Saturday night.

Reports said Latif Ahmed (45) sprinkled kerosene oil on his body and also tried to set his wife on fire but she managed to escape from the house.

He was shifted to the Allied Hospital where his condition was stated to be critical.
