BAHAWALPUR, Oct 25: A local court on Monday extended interim bails before arrest to two PML-N MPAs Malik Muhammad Iqbal Channar, Begum Parveen Masood Bhatti, two former MNAs, Punjab PML vice-president and 10 other office-bearers and activists till Nov 11.

They were granted interim bails before arrest on Oct 14 after the registration of a case against them on Oct 13 for delivering provocative speeches against the government and president Pervez Musharraf.

The Sadar police had registered the case against 16 PML-N activists and some 100 participants, who had observed a black day on Oct 12 to protest over-throwing of the Nawaz government. They along with their supporters assembled unlawfully at the residence of MPA Malik Iqbal Channar and delivered speeches against the government. The police arrested two former MNAs Aqeelur Rehman and Qayyum Azam. Later, the former was released while the latter was detained. However, Qayyum was released when his after arrest bail was accepted by court on Oct 14.

The judge observed that since the former MNA was on Umra trip, the plea for confirmation of bail was adjourned to Nov 11 and thus the bail before arrest was extended up to that period.

PURSE SNATCHING: The incidents of purse snatching from the women in the local bazaars are on the rise.

During the last few days, four women were allegedly deprived of their purses by vagabonds in different bazaars. The delinquents, roaming freely in the bazaars, snatch purses from the women and manage to escape from the scene.

There is an urgent need to deploy policemen to check the rising incidents of purse snatching as the Eid shopping is in full swing these days.
