HYDERABAD, Oct 28: Badin District Nazim Kamal Khan Chang was briefed here on Thursday by officials of the Pakistan Rangers about the law-enforcement agency's role in reconnaissance along the international border , check on cross-border smuggling and rescue operations in time of disasters.
The nazim was told that the fishing contracts to the Rangers were duly notified by the Sindh government in collaboration with the fisheries department.
A press statement issued by the Thar Rangers here on Thursday said the district nazim was informed that the contracts had nothing to do with the district government or with the Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum.
He was told that the fishermen in the Zero Area had their own elected representatives and the Rangers authorities held periodic meetings with them for the well-being of the community.
The statement said Mr Chang was also briefed about the Rangers' deployment in the area for the security of the international border and also to take care of wildlife and check smuggling.
The nazim denied press reports attributed to him and said some people were using his name for their own vested interests.
