FAISALABAD, Nov 1: Punajb Governor Khalid Maqbool warned on Monday that there was absolutely no room for politics on campuses.

Speaking at the opening of new professional studies block of the Government College University here, the governor said the universities should be sources of market-driven new disciplines.

He said it was necessary that we enabled our young educated to find out solutions to the problems of the next century.

He was pleased to learn that leading industrialists had representation on the GCU syndicate who had helped the university in developing necessary infrastructure.

The governor said in an industrial city like Faisalabad, introduction of 28 new disciplines at masters level and 11 programmes of four-year honours graduation in a period of two years was a commendable progress. He said at present professionals not the clerks were required in the market.

He urged the students not to go for degrees alone but develop a passion and urge in themselves to acquire knowledge and skills in their respective fields. "We can only come up to the requirements of the WTO when the quality of education in our universities is of higher level," he said.

He said a college of banking and finance would also be set up in the GC University with the cooperation of the Bank Alflah. Likewise, an open-air auditorium and a sports complex would be constructed in the university.

Vice-Chancellor Dr Asif Iqbal said the education of business administration, commerce, industrial management and law would be imparted in the new professional studies block.

Meanwhile, inaugurating a project to supply gas to Millat Town here, the governor said the people should discourage those elements who intended to create chaos and anarchy in the name of democracy because if there was no political stability, the pace of development could come to a standstill.

He said the government had provided gas to the district headquarters of Mandi Bahauddin, Mianwali, Kasur and Khushab besides many other towns.

The governor also attended a function held at the Iqbal Stadium for distributing Ramazan gifts among 400 deserving families. He also distributed cheques of death/marriage grants amounting to Rs12.375 million among industrial workers on behalf of the Human Resource Board, Faisalabad.
