HYDERABAD, Nov 3: Over half a dozen industrial units were closed on Wednesday after an 18-inch-diameter pipeline supplying water to Kotri Site burst.
Power generation plants also could not supply electricity to industrial units because of non-availability of water.
Sources in the Kotri Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) told Dawn that export agreements had been affected due to the closure of the units.
The pipeline is being repaired and water supply has been restored to some areas.
KATI chairman Mian Tauqir has lodged a protest with the Site management against the negligence and inefficiency of officials concerned. Thousands of workers living in labour colonies have also been affected due to non-supply of water supply.
APTDF: All-Pakistan Technical Draftsmen Federation Chairman Hafiz Matloob Ahmad Chishti has called upon the additional chief secretary, Sindh local government, Saleem Khan, to resolve problems of public health engineering department employees who have not been paid salaries for three months.
He was talking to a delegation of the employees from interior of Sindh which called on him here on Tuesday.
The employees complained that they had not received their salaries since their posting.
Mr Chishti said it was regrettable that even after three years since the introduction of the local bodies system, the fate of the public health engineering department had not been decided. He said the government had not yet taken a decision to adjust the employees in the local board.
He demanded that the original structure of the public health engineering department should be restored as had been done in other provinces.
He further demanded that the employees should be paid salaries before Eid.
SU: The University of Sindh will award eight post-doctorate foreign fellowships to its faculty members subject to approval of the university syndicate.
This decision was taken at a meeting of the university's higher training scholarship committee held on Wednesday.
Dr Abdul Rasool Abassi, Dr M. Saleem Chandio, Dr M. Aslam Memon, Dr Sher Mohammad Magrio, Dr Ghulam Qadir Khaskheli, Dr Nasreen Memon, Dr Azra Sarwar Kandhar and Dr Syed Mehtab Ali Shah will receive the fellowships.
